As some of you know, today is my birthday. Instead of having my cake and eating it too. I’d like to share some lessons I’ve learned since becoming a 30 something. Grab a seat, hold a sparkler, because: It’s Lit.
5 things I’ve learned since 30:
1. Ditch your ego.
People aren’t going to remember how cool you are. They remember how you made them feel. Humble yourself and be gracious is easier said than done especially in this “look at me” society we live in. Confidence doesn’t mean you’re better than someone else, it means you are comfortable with your own light, enough to let someone else shine in your presence.
2. Don’t be afraid of pulling off a look you love.
My style has evolved with my age. I know what looks flattering on my body. A body that isn’t a sample size, and a continuing work in progress. After 30, I had to work harder to maintain my figure, however I’m learning to love my curves and praise women in the media who don’t live by the runway standard. When I see a runway style I love, I figure a way to make it work for my personal style and body type. Don’t expect me to turn down a cupcake on my birthday, I’m just not that girl.
3. Pray.
Don’t ever think a 2 second prayer can’t turn around an entire situation or save a life.
4. Give back.
Doesn’t have to money. Giving comes in all forms. Clothes, food, time, kindness, and knowledge.
5. It’s okay to change.
“You will evolve, not everyone will get it, evolve anyway” Cara Alwill Leyba
“Everybody is a candle. True. But not everybody is lit”
XOXO,
Totally agree with your point about prayer!! Makes such a big difference.
Happy Birthday!!
Caitlin
This is a nice list, I especially love #1. I did a similar post when I turned 31 (http://amberbutbetter.blogspot.com/search?q=30+life+lessons) there’s something about your 30’s that make you want to give advce I guess!
